Aptec wins Middle East distributor award from Symantec for the second time in a row - Middle East's leading IT distributor reaffirms commitment to increase awareness on internet security - April 5, 2003

Aptec, the biggest and fastest-growing IT distributor in the Middle East and Symantec's Value-Added Distributor for the region, has recently won the award for the Best Distributor for the Middle East for the second consecutive year at the annual EMEA (Europe, Middle East & Africa) Distributor's conference at Faro, Algarve in Portugal. Aptec along with Symantec has been focussing on increasing the levels of security expertise in the reseller channel, through the Symantec Partner Programme, which places requirements for a minimum number of engineers within reseller partners that want to sell Symantec products. As a value-added distributor, Aptec is able to shoulder some of the burden of expertise, although the eventual aim is to ensure that the resellers are completely equipped to market Symantec solutions.

Dr. Ali Baghdadi, President and CEO, Aptec Holdings Ltd. and Bahaa Salah, Regional General Manager, Gulf, Lebanon & Africa, Aptec Gulf, received the award from Guiseppe Verrini, Vice President - Sales, Marketing and Services for Symantec EMEA; Kevin Isaac, Regional Director, Symantec Middle East and Africa and Jason Ellis, Distribution Manager Symantec EMEA, during the awards function. Prajit Arakkal, Symantec Business Unit Manager for Aptec group and Thierry Chamayou, General Manager, Aptec Saudi Arabia were also present on the occasion.

Aptec is proud to receive this honour from Symantec for the second year in a row. Our strategy is to turn our resellers into ambassadors for the vendors we represent and thus provide high comfort levels to the customers. This award is a recognition of our commitment to promote Symantec which is a trusted provider of internet security solutions to the enterprise buyer and the end-user base alike. Together we have offered a broad range of solutions and worked together in increasing awareness on the importance of managed security solutions," said Dr. Ali Baghdadi, President and CEO, Aptec Holdings Ltd.
Aptec's continued growth as a leading IT distributor, with the company posting a 60% increase in revenue for the fiscal year 2002, its exceptional commitment to Symantec's appliance market, the ongoing certification of technical personnel and the increase in the number of Aptec staff managing Symantec, were all contributing factors to the group winning this coveted award.

Security has become a dynamic market. As a value-added distributor (VAD), our aim is to make our resellers knowledgeable in the finer points of technology, especially in the field of security, since they form an effective channel to translate inquiries into sales. While the electronic age is bringing with it a host of benefits, these are being countered by growing security threats that have to be protected against. Symantec is a world leader in this realm and Aptec has an ongoing partnership with them to effectively promote the importance of security solutions in every area of the business," said Bahaa Salah, Regional General Manager, Gulf, Lebanon & Africa, Aptec Gulf.
